The Secret Service is resetting its "days without a concerning incident" sign to zero as a result of recent events. According to The Washington Post, Vice-President Kamala Harris encountered an unexpected occurrence on her way to work on Monday.

The vehicle she was traveling in was involved in a singular mishap on a closed roadway, wherein the driver accidentally collided with the curb of a downtown tunnel with such force that the tire required replacement.
Fortunately, Vice-President Harris, who was present inside the involved SUV during the accident, emerged unscathed. However, she had to be transferred to another vehicle following the incident. Footage capturing the accident emerged on TikTok Monday night.
According to The Post, it is surprising that the focus isn't on the driver's failure to avoid a curb on an empty road, considering the routine nature of the travel and the extensive training required for agents responsible for driving the president and vice president.
This incident has raised questions within the Secret Service and among Harris herself regarding how such an accident could occur. What is even more astonishing is the apparent attempt by the Secret Service to conceal the incident. Initially, they attributed the relocation of Harris to "mechanical failure" without mentioning anything about an accident.
Kim Cheatle, the newly appointed director of the Secret Service, was later informed by fellow agents that the initial alert she received was inaccurate. It was revealed that various agents, as well as Harris herself, were already aware of the true details surrounding the incident.
According to a source within the Secret Service, Cheatle expressed her concerns to trusted colleagues, expressing her dismay at the inaccuracies presented in the alert regarding the Harris accident, as reported by the Post.
In an official statement, Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the Secret Service, explained that one of the vehicles in the motorcade had a minor overcorrection, resulting in contact with a curb. He clarified that although the complete incident details were not initially included in the written report, agents later provided their superiors with a thorough account in person.
According to Guglielmi, there was an initial indication of a mechanical failure in the radio communication. This information was then passed on to the agency's leadership by the individuals assisting the motorcade. Following the completion of the protective movement, leadership was orally briefed with additional relevant information regarding the vehicle's contact with a curb."
The agency has faced a number of controversies in recent years. In 2012, several Secret Service agents were dismissed due to their involvement in a prostitution scandal in Colombia. In 2014, there was a breach of security when an intruder made it into the White House and reached the East Room before being apprehended. Additionally, during Joe Biden's trip to Israel earlier this year, an agent was sent back home after being involved in a physical altercation.
